Looking to meet other folks who're trying to adopt through the foster system. It's a bit lonely to be doing things this way. There are so many uncertainties and stresses that are specific to this situation. Our friends who are having babies in different ways are sympathetic and supportive, but we don't know many people who're in the same boat as us.

I already have a blog where I write about this stuff, and lots of other things, on LJ, and it's friends-only to protect the identities of the kids. I'm not sure how I'll use this blog, but a couple of people have pointed out recently that having a public anon blog is a good way to connect with people in similar situations.

So if I get interested and interesting comments to this post, I'll probably start writing some stuff here.

Oh, and right now we have a baby placed with us who we've had for 4 months. She's cute! :)

How long have you been fostering? What age groups besides the baby? Are you in a 'friendly" state?

We've been fostering for a little over a year. We only take babies under 1, though we're certified for 0-2.

And, yes, we're fortunate enough to be in NY and in a county that appreciates foster families of every kind. Though our case worker is still pretty convinced that all queer couples *must* know each other!

We have been fostering for 4 years. Originally, we wanted an elementary school aged kid, but we have actually never had one of those :)

S was first and she was 12. Then K at 15. E at 17. H and H at almost 3 months. They left and then Ben and Sophia (now adopted) at 7 months. Finally, after we thought we were done, we got R at 18 and M at 15. None of our teens are available for adoption except s and we have not done that yet because she is so high needs and we need the support to parent her. But our intent is that they stay and so far they have.

I have lots of foster/adopt friends, but few gay fostering firends. It was nice to see your message.
